- The Systems Safety Engineer - Operational Tools Intern will support safety analysis of off-vehicle software components and tools.
- The role may involve the automation of test pipelines to enhance operational efficiency.
- The intern will work with the System Safety for Operations and Service (SSOS) team, which leads safety evaluations for Zoox operations and services.
- Responsibilities include conducting safety analysis using methods like STPA, defining requirements, and participating in field safety investigations.
- The intern will contribute to delivering the overall safety case necessary for deploying Zoox robots onto public roads.

- The ideal candidate is currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in a technical field such as robotics, aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or computer science engineering.
- A strong software development background is essential, with a solid understanding of software architecture principles and design patterns.
- Familiarity with developing operational tools and features, as well as the release management process, is highly desirable.
- The candidate should have an interest in distributed systems, telemetry, or cloud platforms, showcasing a willingness to learn and adapt.
- Experience or familiarity with formal safety analysis methods such as System Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) or Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) will be beneficial.
