- The Senior Safety Research Engineer will lead statistical analysis of safety-critical human road user behaviors to evaluate Zoox's autonomous driving performances.
- This role involves designing research and experiments utilizing in-house data to inform safety-critical human road user behavior in the context of autonomous vehicles.
- The engineer will propose and standardize processes for developing simulation parameters related to human road user kinematics.
- Maintaining and growing a knowledge base of human road user behavior across various modes, including drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, is a key responsibility.
- The position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Systems Engineers, Software and Hardware Engineering, and Safety Strategy.

- A Ph.D. degree in an Engineering or Science discipline with a strong Human Factors focus and statistics skills is essential for this role.
- The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of relevant experience in modeling and analyzing the behavior of human road users based on naturalistic databases.
- Proficiency in experimental design and multivariate statistical methodologies is crucial for success in this position.
- Strong written and in-person communication skills are necessary, as collaboration with cross-functional teams is a key aspect of the job.
- Experience with Python to interface with internal driving and simulation data sources is a valuable asset.
